Education Substitutes

Education Substitutes assist students who are blind/visually impaired with instructional tasks in classroom.  Substitutes are on an “as-needed” and “on-call” basis.

Registered Nurse, Substitutes

The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired is currently recruiting for Registered Nurse, Substitutes.  These individuals plan and implement health care services to visually and/or multiply impaired students.  The ability to demonstrate current knowledge in professional issues in school nursing, school and community health, communicable disease control, health assessment, acute and chronic health conditions, injury prevention and emergency care, student issues, and legal/ethical health policies.  New Mexico Board of Nursing Multicompact Licensure is required, eligible for certification from the New Mexico Public Education Department and a minimum of two years’ experience, preferably in pediatrics.  Work schedule is Sunday –Friday, as well as occasional weekends and/or out of state travel when necessary.  As a substitute will be on an as needed basis.   Applications accepted until filled.

Drivers/Caregivers, Part-time

Drivers/Caregivers with background/experience in transporting or working with children with visual impairments and/or multiple disabilities is preferred.  Required to assist with self-help routines with students.  Driving will include local and statewide travel as well as occasional out of state travel. CDL with school bus and passenger endorsement preferred but not required.  Good driving record required.  These are 9-month part-time positions with extended runs on Fridays and Sundays, with some short runs during weekdays.  Applications accepted until filled.

Teacher of Students with Multiple Impairments

Duties include the ability to provide a comprehensive educational program to students K-12 with visual impairments and multiple disabilities.  Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education and certification in Vision is preferred or must be willing to acquire.  Must possess or be eligible for NM Public Education Department licensure. Will be required to become Braille proficient.  Full‑time contract for the 2021-2022 school year. Applications accepted until filled. 

Music Teacher or Therapist

The Music Teacher will plan and implement musical instruction for students who are visually impaired, including those with multiple impairments. Goals include helping a diverse population of students to learn music appreciation, vocal performance and/or learning to play musical instruments. Teacher is responsible for providing musical experiences that enhance academic learning, coordinating performances and maintaining classroom instruments.  The Music Therapist will be responsible for implementing therapeutic music interventions to address physical, psychological, cognitive, behavior and/or social functioning needs to students.  Must have current or be eligible for a New Mexico PED Licensure in music; Special Education and background/experience in teaching students with visual impairments preferred.  Full-time, 9-month certified position.  Applications accepted until filled.

Life Skills Assistant

Provides individual and group guidance, relative to developing independent life skills and post-graduation preparedness for blind, visually – or multiple impaired students.  Provides intense instruction in all areas of daily living and Expanded Core Curriculum.  High School diploma/GED and NM Public Education Department Level 3 licensure will be required.  Background/experience in working with visual/multiply-impaired students and woodworking skills are preferred.  Will be required to become Braille proficient.  Full-time, 9-month position.  Applications accepted until filled.

Albuquerque, Early Childhood Campus Opportunities

Education Assistant Substitutes

The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Early Childhood Program is recruiting for Education Assistant, Substitutes. EA subs assist with instructional tasks in classroom. Substitutes are on an “as-needed” and “on-call” basis. Applications will be accepted until filled.

Driver/Caregiver, Substitute

The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired is recruiting for a substitute Driver/Caregiver. Background/experience in transporting or working with children with visual impairments and/or multiple disabilities is preferred. Required to assist with self-help routines with students. Driving will include routes to Gallup and Farmington on weekends. Good driving record required. This is a 9 month substitute position with extended runs on Fridays and Sundays and occasional Mondays. This position will provide health care services to visually and/or multiply impaired students in an educational pre-school setting. New Mexico Board of Nursing Licensure is required, and eligibility for NM Public Education Department licensure; minimum of two years experience, preferably in pediatrics. 9 month contract. Early Childhood Classroom Teacher

The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Early Childhood Program is seeking an experienced and qualified teacher of the visually impaired (TVI) for our site-based preschool and kindergarten program in Albuquerque.  Early Childhood experience is required.  Special Education or Pre-K license is required.  TVI licensure is preferred or willing to acquire one is required.  Teacher would be responsible for teaching, assessing and monitoring a classroom of VI and/or multiply impaired students.  Will be required to become Braille proficient.  Full‑time, 9-month contract for the 2021-2022 school year.  Applications accepted until filled.

Education Assistant

Physical Therapist

New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Early Childhood Program in Albuquerque is currently recruiting a part-time Physical Therapist.  Required to provide services for young children with visual impairments and/or multiple disabilities.  Prefer Physical Therapist with experience in early childhood.  Experience with visual impairment and equipment a plus.  Position for the 2021-2022 school year for approximately 3 days per week.  Applications accepted until filled.
